ALL ABOUT US
In 2016 founder Autumn Lewis set out on a mission to save the world from boring baths and worked towards opening the doors to Maryland's first brick-and-mortar bath bakery. "As someone with sensitive skin, it was always hard to find fun-looking products to use. I would often pick something adorable up while shopping but always felt dissatisfied with the ingredient list so I wanted to be able to share more natural bath and body products that still had some flair!" Combining her deep love for baking and taking baths, Sweet Suds was born. "It was one of the most frightening, but rewarding decisions I've ever made."
After much planning, she opened the doors to her dream in a tiny cottage full of light (and amazing scents) in the quaint mill town of Historic Ellicott City. What was meant as a way to dip her toes in the water, turned into an overnight success. "I realized pretty quickly that I needed more space for products and people! I can't tell you how many times visitors laughed as they had to dance around one another just to look at everything. The cottage will always hold a special place in my heart and every time I see it my heart still skips a beat."
Pulling together resources (and family members), Sweet Suds opened in their new location at 8026 Main Street, just a stone's throw away from their first location. "It was magical. I was able to offer so much more to my customers and I couldn't beat the new view of the B&O Railroad Museum where I get to watch trains pass through every day."
Unfortunately, that magic was short-lived. On May 27, 2018, a horrific flash-flood destroyed Main Street along with most of the shops that lined it. "We had only been open in our new location for five weeks when the flood struck. I truly thought this was the end of the road for my shop - seeing it wash away right in front of my eyes is an experience that will haunt me for the rest of my life."
With much determination, Autumn fought with every ounce of energy she had left to keep her dream alive. That determination paid off and Sweet Suds was back in business by November 2018. "I don't know what the future holds for Sweet Suds, but I am working hard every day to share the joy I find and belief I have in the products I carry with anyone who stops by. I have had to accomplished a lot of things in a short amount of time and I hope that the energy and positivity I have put into my vision will help me spread the sweetness to other locations in the near future!"
